Heating water, central heating system filling, filling cartridges, pH stabilizers

When filling the heating system, it is recommended to use demineralized filling water - with electrical conductivity ≤ 10 µS/cm and neutral pH (7,5 - 9).

Recommended limit values for demineralized water:

Residual hardness < 0,001 °dH

Conductivity at 25 °C < 10 µS/cm

Oxygen content < 0,02 mg/l

Chlorides < 0,5 mg/l

Sulfates < 0,2 mg/

pH value 7,5 - 9

Poor heating water quality promotes corrosion (black water, sludge in the system) and the formation of scale.

This can cause damage to heat exchangers, boilers, heat pumps, etc. malfunctions and damage.

Drinking water is also not suitable for filling the heating system due to the high concentration of substances dissolved in it (manifested in low pH and high level of electrical conductivity).

High-quality heating water is according to the standard:

– With low electrical conductivity (< 100 μS/cm)

– With low oxygen content (< 0,1 mg/l)

– with a pH between 8 and 9,5

The valid directive is VDI 2035, you can find it at the link: VDI 2035 heating water quality

The electrical conductivity of water indicates the content of various salts and minerals in the water. The main cations are sodium Na+, calcium Ca2+, potassium K+ and magnesium Mg2+, and the main anions are chloride Cl-, sulfate SO42-, carbonate CO32- and bicarbonate HCO3-.

If the concentration of dissolved substances in water increases, then the electrical conductivity of the solution, the corrosiveness of water, also increases.

The electrical conductivity of water is characterized by specific electrical conductivity (measurement unit is siemens per centimeter).

Maximum electrical conductivity allowed for heating water at 25 °C: 100 µS/cm.

The value of pH, or hydrogen exponent, is called an indicator of acidity, i.e. pH indicates whether water is acidic or basic.

Acidic water with a too low pH (pH below 7) is soft and causes corrosion processes by dissolving various metals in the water.
